This policy explains what UNWRITTEN collects and why. UNWRITTEN is an interactive fiction app that generates a personalized story for you using Anthropic's Claude AI, based on a few details you provide.
When you start a story, you provide a name, a job/role, a genre, and a short answer to "how are you feeling right now." As you play, your choices — including anything you type in your own words — become part of that story.
This information, along with your ongoing choice history, is sent to Anthropic's Claude API each time the app generates the next part of your story. Anthropic processes this text to generate story content and does not use it to train models, per Anthropic's own API data usage terms. We do not maintain a server of our own that stores this information — it is sent directly from your device to Anthropic for the sole purpose of generating your story.
Free-text input you write is also checked locally, on your device, against a basic content filter before it's sent anywhere — this check never leaves your device.
Your profile (name, job, genre, language, soundtrack choice), your in-progress story (generated text, your choices), your coin balance, and your completed-story gallery are all stored locally on your device using standard app storage (AsyncStorage). Uninstalling the app removes this data. We do not operate a server-side account system — there is no login, and no email or password is collected by us.
If you subscribe to UNWRITTEN+ or buy a coin pack, the purchase is processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store, and purchase/subscription status is managed through RevenueCat, our subscription infrastructure provider. RevenueCat receives a device/purchase identifier and transaction data needed to validate your purchase — it does not receive your name, job, or story content. Free-tier users may be shown ads served by Google AdMob. UNWRITTEN requests non-personalized ads only — we do not opt you into personalized/targeted advertising. AdMob may still collect limited technical data (such as a device advertising identifier) as needed to serve and measure ads; see Google's policies at policies.google.com/privacy.
If you allow notifications, UNWRITTEN may remind you about an unfinished story. These reminders are scheduled entirely on your device — no push server or third party is involved, and no data about your story is transmitted to send them.
UNWRITTEN is not directed at children and is not intended for users under 13 (or the minimum age required by your country). Some genres (e.g. Horror, Thriller) contain mature themes appropriate for teens and adults.
You can stop sharing new information at any time by not playing, and you can delete all locally-stored data by uninstalling the app. Because we don't operate a server-side account, there is no separate "delete my account" step — uninstalling removes everything we have access to. If you have questions about how Anthropic or RevenueCat handle data sent to them, their respective privacy policies (anthropic.com/privacy, revenuecat.com/privacy) apply to that processing.
We may update this policy as the app changes. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
